Sophie and I recently had a conversation about the persecuted church. I explained how people all over the world were often beaten and killed for loving Jesus. Her immediate response left me humbled, convicted, and speechless.
"Mom, if we could just GO to these people that hurt those who love Jesus and tell them that He loves them and that He died for them then they would love Jesus back and then they wouldn't hurt the people who love Jesus anymore."
As I sat there angry at people who persecute the church, not desiring to show any mercy toward them, my 7 year old responds with wisdom. My translation of her words: "If they just knew Jesus, they would love Him." The Lord used her to bring about a broken spirit and contrite heart within me.
As many of you know the Lord has been laying India on my heart for a couple months now. God has lead us to an organization with a strong presence in India, that we've grown to love, Gospel for Asia.
Gospel for Asia, through a monthly sponsorship program, supports missionaries who give their lives daily to share the gospel with many who have never heard the name of Jesus. And these missionaries continually encounter people who persecute the church. Our prayer is that the Lord will use the missionaries to change the hearts of many persecutors. Jesus changed the life of the persecutor Saul and turned him into the bond-slaved apostle Paul who truly did just what Sophie said, he loved Jesus back and then he didn't hurt people who loved Jesus anymore.
Sophie and I put our hearts and minds together this weekend to see how we could be a part of sharing the gospel in Asia and in our community. We've decided to start a 4 week campaign called "Bible Stories for Bicycles."
